Whilst often in the shadow of winter oilseed rape, spring oilseed rape does offer the same functional attributes with reduced growing costs. Environmental and rotational constraints could impinge on the growth of winter oilseed rape in the UK and therefore spring oilseed rape could find favour, particularly in the new market sectors such as biodiesel.
The appeal of spring oilseed rape is obvious:
low growing costs flexible sowing window 130 days from sowing to harvest easy management ease of harvest low risk crop no pigeons!
Short, popular variety producing higher gross output than the mostly widely grown SOSR varieties. Excellent standing ability
Highest conventional gross output variety on the HGCA DL 2012. Early to mature.
Conventional, high gross output variety.
Medium height, high gross output variety.
